Catering at the Trust is challenging, busy and enjoyable!
I work part time at Hardwick Hall in the restaurant, as a Food and Beverage Assistant. I’m also a full-time student, studying a BTEC diploma in Aviation Operations, in Nottingham. The Stable Yard has an excellent reputation for our homemade cakes, so if you’re planning on visiting I recommend you try them all!
Throughout my two years working at the National Trust my confidence has grown hugely. I’ve gained high level customer service skills as we welcome over 350,000 visitors at Hardwick Hall each year. The Trust is always aiming to improve the service offered to our customers and my training throughout the years reflects that. I provide customers with that extra special service and ensure every visitor gets the most from their visit.
Living just 10 minutes from the site, I’ve been visiting Hardwick Hall for around 15 years and I love working in a place I’ve known since being a small child. One of the best things about working at Hardwick Hall is that most people in my team also live locally so we all have a close relationship and that makes the working day run smoothly.
I’ve recommended my friend Molly who now works alongside me at Hardwick Hall. She enjoys the job as much as I do. To be a great Food and Bev Assistant you need to be organised, smiley and confident. You should be comfortable using your own initiative, working as part of a team and dealing with different and sometimes challenging situations. Ideally you’ll be able to multitask and go the extra mile by knowing the history of your property, too!
