Focus on Matt Drew, Head of Food and Beverage
I’d worked for a number of commercial Foodservice organisations, and even an airline, before joining the National Trust. But there’s something truly special about working here; an extra sprinkle of passion and positivity. It’s refreshing to work with such warm, friendly people who all truly care about what they do and where they work. It was the variety that initially attracted me: I mean, where else are you going to have an opportunity in Food and Beverage that spans across such an amazing range of beautiful places and spaces? I knew the potential was huge and I definitely haven’t been disappointed. I’m a natural foodie so I love visiting different properties and getting up close and personal with the food!
A key difference with the National Trust is that while the commercial side is fundamental, we never lose sight of our roots – conservation is still our core purpose. Our dedication to conservation and a commercial focus go hand-in-hand, and Food and Beverage is business-critical to our success and profitability. It’s key to delivering special days out for visitors and growing the nation’s love of special places. This means plenty of unique challenges, excitement and professional stimulation for me. To relax after a busy week at work, I love hiking, cycling, live comedy, cooking and gardening – obviously not on as big a scale as we do here though!
