I've always worked with the land, right from my background in farming, so the National Trust felt the right path for me. That said, while it's inspiring to work in such beautiful landscapes, it's probably my work with people in the community that I find most enriching; from local farmers to landladies and golf club managers, understanding their needs and helping them to earn their living off the land.
I'm also involved in dealing with landowners and Environmental Authorities over potential land acquisitions, but overall I think there can be few things more satisfying than enabling farmers to benefit from new income sources from Environmental Stewardship Schemes, and supporting them to establish new sustainable habitats on their holdings such as species rich hay meadows.
