Bill - Building Assistant

The most satisfying thing about working for the National Trust is that I can really take pride in my work - whether it's some carpentry, bricklaying, painting or plastering, every job has to be done well. I get to do all sorts of general maintenance work on the inside and outside of the building - not the restoration work, but there's always something different to do. It's also rewarding to pass on my skills to the next generation.

I originally trained as a plumber, and of course I could get paid so much as a plumber these days, but sometimes I think there are more things in life than money - and working somewhere like this, and knowing what I do is really helping to maintain such a historic building gives me so much more enjoyment.
