A step in the right direction for our food and beverage team
On 2nd June 2016, the good and the great of foodservice and hospitality gathered for the Footprint Awards in London. Since their inception in 2011, the Footprint Awards have been the barometer for sustainability and responsible business practice in the foodservice sector and has seen the level of performance in this area change beyond recognition. The awards are a celebration of initiative and innovation, of commercial imagination and endeavour.
Some of our very own Whole Trust Food and Beverage team attended the awards dinner, where a number of awards were presented including Sustainable Use of Natural Resources, Waste Management and Reduction and Environmentally Efficient Logistics to a wide variety of winners, such as McDonalds, Sodexo and Cardiff Council.
The Responsible Sourcing Award is all about sourcing effectively and without damaging the environment and future supply chain – in other words, it’s about food security. But as an industry that has sourcing at the heart of all of its operations, it can be a challenge.
This category was hotly contested and the judges were looking for minimal environmental impact, investment, strategy, continuous scrutiny and long-term plans and a net positive effect. The shortlist included Lusso and River Cottage, with Daylesford taking runner-up place for its entry, ‘Responsible Sourcing; a fully integrated and organic supply chain’. We were delighted to be recognised as the winner in recognition of the work we’ve done to transform our supply chain, introduce new sourcing standards and bring more of our tenants’ produce into our supply chain.
Matt Drew, Head of Food and Beverage, said: “It’s brilliant just to be nominated along with these great organisations but to beat them is testament to the scale of what we’ve achieved and great collaboration, hard work and passion of the Food and Beverage Team, catering teams and Commercial Support Consultants, as well as the huge potential we have to build on the new supply chain we’ve developed.”
Well done and a huge congratulations to everyone who was involved in making our supply chain more sustainable and secure!
