5 reasons you should build your Surveying career at the National Trust
It’s so much more than just taking care of old mansions
Think Surveying at the National Trust is just about conserving Downton Abbey style mansions? Think again. Mansions are actually a relatively small part of our portfolio: we look after about 300 of them, alongside an incredible range of other places. We also work on a number of new-build projects such as visitor centres and farm buildings.
A variety of structures and buildings that you won’t find elsewhere
28,000 buildings and structures to be more precise. These include 57 entire villages, over 5,000 cottages, farms, bridges, lighthouses, pubs, barns and castles. Set in some of the nation’s most stunning settings, their histories span 800 years and many are listed or scheduled ancient monuments.
We’re probably much more innovative than you might think
We’re the largest building conversation organisation in Europe and it takes constant evolution in the way that we work to effectively manage such a wide range of properties, welcoming millions of visitors each year. We’re innovators in sustainability, known for our sustainable technology, and we’re currently upgrading much of our estate.
Our training and development programme is second-to-none
Just like we do our properties, we pride ourselves on looking after our Building and Rural Surveyors to the highest standards. Our training and development programme is excellent and provides courses – internal and external – as well as the opportunity to learn from experts in field. The breadth of knowledge and experience you’ll have access to within the organisation is amazing.
It’s more than just a typical job
Being responsible for the maintenance and conservation of some of the most treasured buildings is challenging but extremely rewarding. You’ll learn a variety of skills and work on projects that you’d struggle to find elsewhere, as you help to safeguard the future of unique, beautiful properties. With lots of exciting things happening at the National Trust right now, it’s an excellent place to build your Surveying career.
